Google has been making some major changes to it's search methods lately. While you don't need much information to benefit from it as a user, you DO need to keep up with all of this in order to be sure that your Business continues to come up as high as possible in the searches!
The most important change has been the introduction of what they are calling Search, plus Your World. Google search results will now be weighted to display people and notably, G+ profiles and G+ posts of those in your (Google) World.
This change gives heightened importance and urgency to your having a presence on G+. Click here for a full post from the Google Blog on this important news
If nothing else, I do recommend making sure that you now have a personal and business profile on G+, which is exactly what they were trying to incentivize here, I am sure.
And for more insights into how Google 'thinks' - or more precisely 'considers' you and your content, see this valuable post from SEOMOZ.

Pinterest is a new social network designed to allow people to 'pin' images and information on a 'board' that can then be shared privately or publicly. It is social in that visitors (if you share it) can then both comment on the items and 're-pin' them on boards of their own.
It can be used to design, say a 'Dream' board for your wedding or provide a fun way to explore your love of vintage cars or the color purple or California wines or... you get the idea - the options are endless!
It can also be used by businesses to give their customers a better idea of who they are and what they do.
I found the travel board a bit out of place, it seemed more like 'pretty places I would like to visit' but some of the others were great! The recipe board, with photos and comments was a perfect fit for the brand and the fitness goals also seemed to align well.
Personally, I have not yet found a business use for this new tool but I can see it as an excellent option for many of my clients. I also see it as a wonderful tool for play - I may start a Vision board when I get a few minutes - though I probably won't be sharing that here!
If YOU are using this tool, for business or pleasure, please post your board up on my Facebook Page Wall for all of us to enjoy!
Happy Pinning!

Getting 2012 Off to a Great Start
Managing and Monitoring Your Social Media in 20 Minutes a Day (or less!)
Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, G+ and other social networks can be both a blessing and a curse. They are an invaluable way to keep in touch with friends, family, business associates, clients and customers. You can use them for everything from networking to establishing your expertise and from researching to finding fun diversions. Once you start using them, it is not uncommon to wonder how you ever lived without them!
But whether you are using them for business and or pleasure, they can also be a huge time drain! The number one problem I hear from active social media users, by FAR, is that they are overwhelmed by all the time they find themselves spending on the various sites and are having a hard time determining if there really is any ROI, any Return on this Investment of time.
In direct response to this pressing concern, I have created a new training program showing you how to Manage and Monitor YOUR Social Media profiles in 20 minutes a day or less! Really.

Constant Contact - helping you grow your business:
Here are a bunch of new tools and applications recently introduced by Constant Contact, to help you create a more effective e-newsletter and to grow your contact list.
- WiseStamp:You should always include a link to sign up for your e-newsletter in your email footer. There are a few ways to do this but this new one is one of the easiest! Designed to work with Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL, they include a link to sign up to be notified when the Outlook version is released. WiseStamp App
- Google Analytics for Event Marketing: Additional data now supplied for interactions with your Event Home Page.
- Merchandise can now be sold via Event Marketing: This is a great new addition to the Events Package where you can offer items to your attendees - think t-shirts, hats, additional add-on services, just about anything! And you can set the number of each type of item so say you want to offer 1 hour consultations at the full day event you are organizing; you can say there is one, 11:00 appointment, one, 3:00 appointment, etc. A great new option!
(Note that you must have the paid, Event Marketing package to take advantage of these two features.)

New on LinkedIn...
LI Group Insights, Polls, Events and more!
LinkedIn has been in overdrive these last few months adding all sorts of new and helpful features! All of the features below are available in the free version of your account and are definitely worth looking into.
- LinkedIn Group Insights: This new feature helps you better understand the demographics of the groups you are in and, if the group is public, let's you see this info to help you determine the groups you might want to join. Click here for more on this feature.
- LinkedIn Polls: An easy to use tool, now available in LinkedIn groups. Group moderators have the option of allowing members to start their own polls, or not. Where allowed, there is a small icon below the navigation bar, right where you would start a discussion. It really IS very easy to use and a nice way to get some quick feedback! Click here for more on this.
- LinkedIn Events: This can be a powerful tool to help you find attendees for your Events but it can now also help you make the most of the events you attend! There is some additional functionality in the 'events you might be interested in' and they now allow you more ways to browse. Visit the LinkedIn Events page to see it in action!

On Facebook ...
Privacy settings and allowing applications
Have you noticed, when you read certain online publications like The Huffington Post, that to read the full article, you need to 'sign in'? Often, you are able to sign in using your Facebook credentials. What you may not have noticed was, in the terms of service agreement you must agree to, is permission for them to share, often automatically, on your FB wall, that you have read this article. That is why you frequently see that a friend has read such and such an article this morning - it's not like they have necessarily shared this on purpose - it may be that the application automatically posted this info!
The Washington Post Social Reader is a very popular one, though at least they call it a SOCIAL reader! They do offer a variety of sharing options, all the way down to lock down and there is even an option to bypass the share, but you need to interact to set that - the default is public sharing.
Yahoo is another social reading app. They too clearly explain that they will be sharing this info and do offer a number of sharing options. Interestingly, their default seems to be 'friends' rather than public (though I might have set that at some point previously, I am not sure.)
I mention this, not to scare you off but to inform you so you will think twice about where you sign in via FB and to be cognizant of what, exactly you are giving them permission to do with the info they glean from that visit.
