Helpful tips and updates...
Do you use Hootsuite? I am a big fan and use it regularly to schedule posts and for the helpful stats.
Another useful feature is that it has it's own URL shortener, similar to bit.ly or tinyurl.com but HootSuite tracks your ow.ly links no matter where they are posted, as long as they are posted via HS. Pretty coll for a free tool!
Do you use Hotmail? Are you active on Linked In? A recent upgrade now allows you to view and act on information about your new connection when you receive a notification, via Hotmail, that someone has accepted your inviation to link.
And one last quick tip. Facebook keeps changing it's interface, almost weekly. One of the recent changes is that to add a comment, you just hit 'enter' on your keyboard. Well, if you are like me, and like to add a space between comments or to create paragraphs this meant that you were often posting have finished comments. Well, now you can press 'shift' plus the enter key to add a line without posting!

Twitter Search, now even more powerful!
For those of you that are on Twitter, you have probably used the 'search' feature to find conversations and content of interest. Twitter has recently upgraded the search results to now include 'people' associated with your search phrase. This is useful in that it helps you identify people that may be of interest to follow but it is also an important reminder to use your keywords in both your bio and your tweets so that YOU are found when others are searching on those words.

And did you know?
In a report released this past week by Buddy Media, they claimed to have found that posts that included a FULL URL (not shortened by bit.ly, Hootsuite or any other service) were shown to have 3 times higher engagement rates!
This does seem logical, as a shortened URL can be very cryptic and if you are unfamiliar with the person posting, as is often the case on a platform like Twitter, one may be hesitant to click on the link. But since many popular social media sites, like Linked In, Twitter, FB and others, limit the number of characters you can include in a single post this is definitely a dilemma!
For now, I choose to use the Hootsuite shorteners. If you are interested, here is a great article on creating your own CUSTOM, shortened URLs.
What are YOUR thoughts on the topic? Are you someone that refuses to click on a shortened link? Please visit the Facebook Page and let us know!
