LisaMarie Dias Designs Newsletter October 2009
LisaMarie Dias Designs

A monthly publication designed to support those of you that are writing and maintaining e-newsletters of your own;  full of practical tips, useful suggestions and hopefully, even some inspiration!

LisaMarie DiasWelcome!

Last month, we focused on how to insert, link and display photos.  This month, we will continue to look at more ways you can use photos to enhance your online message!

As always, I hope that you find the information useful and look forward to helping you start, optimize and maintain your e-newsletter!
Sizing and Cropping Images
Guidelines

Images add color, info and interest but think outside the box when choosing one.  Rather than using one of the standard images that comes with the template - which has probably already been seen by your readers - explore the premium image gallery for something more unusual or, better yet, add photos you have taken yourself!

Another option is to crop an image for better impact. The photo to the right is an example of cropping to create a more unusual view (it is not your typical Eiffel Tower shot) and to highlight beauty of the structure.

If the template you have chosen already has a grey box blocked out for an image, look carefully and it will tell you the size, in pixels, that will fit best.  If that info is not included, here are some guidelines:
  • 100px wide x 100px high - for a small square logo.
  • 120px wide x 175px high - for a small rectangular headshot like the one alongside the welcome above.
  • 800px wide x 350px high  - for a full width logo header as used above
  • please note: this is an extra wide template - typical templates are 600px wide
  • 280px wide x 330px high - for a large image like the Tower shot used here.

Keep in Mind
When choosing Images

As you are taking (or collecting) images for your e-newsletter, try to gather square as well as rectangular images so that you have some options when you are laying out your template.

This Month's Question
About Images

Q: Sometimes, when I link my images to a website, I get a bright blue box around it that I can't get rid of.  Why does this happen and how can I get rid of it?
