The allure of Agate!

Often identified by their distinct banding patterns,  Agates, like the Fire Agate shown above, are one of the many types of Chalcedony that we love to use.  Long associated with truth, the stone is said to both assist in detecting truth and in encouraging honesty.  It is also believed to foster emotional healing, assist in memory and concentration and to increase an individual's courage.  They are both pretty AND powerful - an alluring combination!

The more I learn about these stones I work with, the more fascinated I become!  Did you know that Amethyst is thought to bring happiness to the wearer and that Peridot will attract love?  Do you find it interesting that the American Indians called Jaspers 'Rain Bringers'?  If certain stones attract or 'speak' to you, you may want to learn more about them - and in the process, you may also learn something new about yourself!

I am now in the process of putting together a presentation on the history and healing properties of many of the stones we use in our pieces.  It will be a combination of information and physical samples with specimens of many of the stones I will talk about passed around for you to see, touch and enjoy.

I will be updating the website to include the additions and will be presenting the lecture to interested groups and organizations.  If you or someone you know would be interested in learning more or would like to host a lecture, please call (973.275.9497) or email us at Classes@LisaMarieDiasDesigns.com
Congratulations to Kerry Cordero!

Please leave poppin' tags to Jay-Z!

You know those annoying price tags that I put on the necklaces and bracelets?  They are made of a really durable, plastic coated paper that keeps on sticking.  This allows us to transport and try on the jewelry over and over without losing track of those important inventory numbers and price codes.  But, if they are still on once you get home, please do not pull them off!  They are usually located at the clasp and can damage or compromise that connection.

Ideally, we will cut it off at the time of purchase but if, for some reason we have forgotten, please bring it back or carefully remove it yourself using a small cuticle or sewing scissors.  If you do not have one of those available, you can use an exacto knife or small paring knife but please make sure not to cut yourself or the beading wire!  In some cases the wire is very fine and hard to see so be extra careful to watch where you are cutting.

And leave poppin' tags to Jay-Z!

Visiting Make-up Artist/ Hair Stylist Greg Clark

A big "Hello" to all fellow admirers of LisaMarie's beautiful jewelry.  I'm neither a jeweler, nor a female, but I do know a thing or two about beauty.  I'm a make-up artist/hair stylist for photoshoots.  Every job I'm booked for presents a new situation, new goals, and more to the point, new faces!  I meet some of the most genetically-blessed, naturally beautiful young girls from all around the world.  In examining these ethereal creatures' faces, I mentally formulate and create a cosmetic plan that I imagine will be the best way to enhance their beauty.  That's where I realized jewelry has a similar role.  Just as with each of these dazzling girls, my goal is to enhance the beauty they already possess - not steal their thunder with loud decoration.

Sometimes I think the art of creating in both jewelry and the cosmetic field is knowing when to say "Enough!"  I invite you to try the same (lovingly) objective examination in your own mirror.  Really look at yourself.  Could you describe the shape of your face, identify your best features, or even very specifically define your hair and eye colors to someone who couldn't see you?  These are all issues to consider when adorning your body, whether with make-up, a new hair-style, or a new piece of jewelry.  Also consider that sometimes knowing what's "right" is a more right-brain decision; let your intuition, your sense of what "calls your name" or feels perfectly placed and at home, inform your choice.

Now look away from the mirror (whew!) and consider your jewelry.  Do you perhaps see that each piece has a personality, a nuance of style all its own?  Look at lines, weight, form, color, movement, sheen - all potentially ways to complement the way you see yourself and want to present yourself to the world.

That's how I use hair and make-up as tools to enhance people.  I think about (and feel) their coloring, size, shape, demeanor, age, attire, personality - all to synthesize a look I think is attractive and flattering.  Anyone else will certainly have their own variation of what's best, but when I am booked for a job, it's this, my way of seeing, my interpretation, that's being requested.  And I love working to help accomplish these beautiful enhancements.  When I see a client examine herself in the mirror with pride, and self-confidence, I know my mission's been accomplished.

The next time you're picking either a new lipstick shade or browsing for a new self-gift of jewelry, I hope you'll remember that decisions are much easier as you come to know more and more who it is you see in the mirror.

To view samples of my work, please look under my name, Greg Clark, at www.halleyresources.com  Personal services I offer my clients include: private make-up lessons, special event make-up or hair-styling, eyebrow shaping, assessment of client's make-up supplies (to help cull out unnecessary or unhelpful items), accompanied make-up shopping, and bridal services upon request.  For more information on these services or with other questions, please contact me directly: greg@gregclarkbeauty.com
