Infrastructure Financing

Are you and your Board or Council looking for new ideas on how to fund your town's streets and other public infrastructure? If you are, then you should consider attending the Forum on Innovative Municipal Financing, co-sponsored by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus on Monday, April 30 from 3:00-5:00 pm. Opening remarks byLois Scott, CFO, City of Chicago Infrastructure Trust.

Breakout sessions

Financing Transportation Services

With transit funding sources in short supply and challenges securing funds for a local match, it is difficult for municipalities to pay for Metra station development, parking lots, or expanded service.

Outsourcing Industrial Services

To keep costs down and focus on core competencies, municipalities are outsourcing the operations and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment services to water experts who inject both expertise and technology into a water or utility facility, or waste removal, to make that facility or service more cost-effective.

Investing in Public Buildings

Officials are looking to innovative financing mechanisms to finance local capital projects, including schools and downtown parking garages. Public-private partnerships or sale leaseback agreements have become an increasingly important municipal financing tool as an alternative to long-term general obligation bonds.

Marketing Municipalities

Municipal marketing creates public-private sector partnerships to allow municipalities to raise revenue without raising taxes. Community assets and properties can be leveraged through sponsorships, etc.

Please RSVP to Eve Pytel at epytel@mayorscaucus.org or (312) 201-4506 with your preferred breakout session by April 23.

Please share this LCMLetter with staff. It is our aim to keep elected officials and their village staff informed about the issues facing municipalities.

Sincerely,
Christine Gentes
