Greetings!
The LCMLetter is published twice a month and its goal is to keep Lake County Municipal League members informed on municipal issues. As issues relevant to municipal officials arise, the LCMLetter will provide you with a synopsis of the issues and give you a link for further details.
Video Gaming to go live on January 1, 2011

Although video gaming is expected to go live January 1, 2011, a central computer system that will link every gaming terminal in the state will need to be in operation. Licenses for distributors, operators and retailers must be approved and issued.

One other issue is information sharing between the Gaming Board and the local jurisdiction. No procedures are in place to address issues of enforcement of the Act, disciplinary procedures, and general communication between the regulatory body and local jurisdictions. The Gaming Board has not had the opportunity to address the concerns.

Two other bills related to Video Gaming passed the Legislature and are awaiting the Governor's signature.

HB 4927 allows truck stops to operate video gaming terminals around the clock. The bill also removes certain restrictions on the location of video gaming establishments.

SB 744 includes restaurants and bars at off-track betting parlors as a legal establishment that may have video gaming terminals.

Building Community Assets through Deconstruction and Material Reuse

This one-day workshop will examine new business and employment opportunities springing up in Lake County and the nation connected with the growing movement toward deconstruction and reuse of building materials. The presenters will explain how this emerging "green" technology is influencing the design, construction and remodeling of residential and public housing, schools, hospitals, public facilities and commercial and industrial real estate and share their real-world experience in the field.

The session will also engage participants in determining the role local government, nonprofits, community institutions and real estate and building professionals can play in creating a positive business climate for deconstruction and building material reuse in Lake County.

  • University Center of Lake County, Grayslake
  • Lunch will be provided
