New Staff Member!
We are pleased to welcome Sasha Nikulina as the newest addition to the Chroma family. Sasha began her employment with the gallery this past summer and has quickly taken to a demanding job as sales and marketing coordinator.
Sasha was born in the former Soviet Union, now Ukraine and grew up in Hamburg, Germany. She moved to the U.S. in 1995 and finished high school in the New York tri-state area. She has lived in Charlotte, NC, New York/Jersey Area, Vermont, and San Francisco Bay Area - where her parents currently reside.
In 2004 Sasha arrived in Savannah to begin her studies at SCAD. While attending classes, she worked part time with SCAD's exhibitions department, fulfilling duties as required and, as she says, "learning to love Savannah and the art community that exists here." After graduating from SCAD in 2008 with Highest Honors (magna cum-laude) in Illustration & Graphic Design, Sasha moved to the Silicon Valley and worked for a stationery company called TinyPrints.
In April of 2009, she returned to Savannah for a visit with her boyfriend, now turned fiance, and decided to make this her home. And we are so pleased that she did.
Sasha says, " I'm very happy to be working for Chroma, as the Sales and Marketing Coordinator. There's just something about being completely enveloped in a rich artistic environment that is so fulfilling. Every day is exciting and never the same as the day before. One day you're talking to people from all over the world (may it be in person or via phone) and the next your an art critic giving input and suggestions. I just love the dynamics in the gallery."
We hope you all will join us in welcoming Sasha.

Jon POIRIER
Unrivaled in design and quality,
glass blown in the Swedish style employs color and form to reveal the true,
fluid beauty of the material. The Swedish style of glass blowing demands the
ability to execute technique without error, a respect for the precise nature of
molten glass, and the vision to harmonize form and materials to reveal the
hidden, natural beauty of glass. Guided by this intense discipline and love of
the craft, Jon Poirier, a local Savannah
glass artist, deepened his understanding of the unique relationship between
creator and his creation. But glass blowing is not simply a craft, not a series
of techniques that an apprentice can learn. For Jon, to see the glass - to
serve the glass - the artist must live it every day. Hence, every day he
ventures to conquer flawless perfection in his work, ranging from functional creations
of art to riveting showpieces.

Jan Clayton PAGRATIS
Jan Clayton
Pagratis, who through recent years is exhibiting greater interest in working
with different media and building surfaces, textures with paint, wax, and found
objects, is presenting a new series of encaustics. Small color filled
abstractions, free-associations of life's splices, forever encapsulated in an
array of glittering works. All are vividly entitled; "Red High Heels &
Teal Tango Nights", "Golden Skies & Ultramarine Depths",
"Street Corner Yellow & Sugar Coated Cherry," just to name a few. Her works are filled with ideas, memories and fragments of experiences
associated with growing up and living on the southeastern coast of the US.

Laura DINELLO
The beloved local artist, Laura DiNello, known for reinventing the art of mosaic with repurposed canvas pieces on canvas, has brought us a few new larger scale marvels. The extensively intricate compositions lend themselves nicely to the simple nature of the subject matter she chooses to depict. Her paintings employ the standard principles of art (color, form, repetition and layering) yet with a distinctive mosaic painting style that she began creating almost twenty year ago. The pieces of oil painted canvas layered over stretched canvases make a daring statement with their vibrant colors and charmingly lyrical composition.
