JAN CLAYTON-PAGRATIS
Watershed Substructure 48"x 36" Mixed Media
Jan Clayton-Pagratis is one of a unique group of artists exhibiting at the City of Savannah, Department of Cultural Affairs' S.P.A.C.E. Gallery. The exhibition titled REINCARNATED, is dedicated to raising awareness of recycling in Savannah and promotes the city's curbside recycling program which begins in January 2009. The artists included in this show use found or recycled
materials in a conscious creative effort to reduce waste. The opening reception will be at S.P.A.C.E. Gallery, 9 West Henry Street, this Friday, May 2nd from 6:00 - 8:00pm. Clayton-Pagratis will be exhibiting examples from the
"Paint Chip" series. This series began about ten years ago when the artist began
collecting the left over oil paint scraped from her palette. Since then, the variety of materials used in the making of these pieces has expanded and now includes other
recycled materials such as rusty metal, paint tubes, plastic lids, ribbon,
glass, buttons, toys, and most anything that will contribute to the content or
the composition.
This exhibition is a collaboration between the City of Savannah Sanitation Bureau Recycling Center and local artists who choose Green.
