We Pruned Our Knockout Roses...

in June!

Seasoned gardeners are familiar with the old rule about pruning roses in February, and while it is true that this is the best time to prune them, we bent the rules a little- succesfully!

Here are the roses before we pruned them (early June):

Knockout roses before pruning

This is what they looked like right after pruning.  If you were wondering what the catch is, here it is- You can prune your knockouts anytime during the growing season if they are overgrown or looking tired, but be prepared for bare looking plants with no blooms for a few weeks.

knockouts post-pruning

Fertilize your knockouts after pruning to give them a boost and about six weeks later they will be full, healthy and blooming again!
