Message from the President of NAWBO Delaware By Karen L. Miller
Wow! What a summer it's been for NAWBO. The National Meeting in Chicago, attended by Cathy Imburgia (Policy Chair) and me was incredible! The attendance comprised over 500 amazing women business owners including our new President, Wendy Lopez. I think we all came home energized to help our chapters become the best they can be. I took away a couple of things; one, the need for each of us to improve our government (State and Federal) contracting. Believe it or not, each of us offers something that the government buys ... even ballroom dancing!! With that in mind we want to help you get the skills and contacts to improve your odds. Watch for more from NAWBO Delaware. Cathy was part of an impressive panel of experts in this area. She's a valuable resource for us.
The second thing I took away was network skill building. Not only was I able to connect with many of these terrific women, I learned that networking is much, much more than exchanging business cards; its about building a sisterhood and sharing ourselves. More to come on this topic as well.
Additionally, many thanks for your input to our NAWBO Audience Survey. We had a terrific response in numbers AND content. The Board retreat in July focused on these results. We hear you! Watch for programming that meets your needs!! Finally, for those of you that expressed interest in serving the board, we still have a couple of open positions and committee needs including Marketing and Communications Chair/Committee and President Elect. Please get in touch and let us know how you'd like to serve. |

By Caren McCabe
We hope you had an excellent summer and are anxiously anticipating NAWBO programs for the upcoming year. What better way to enhance your business intelligence and build new business relationships than to attend NAWBO events! We used your input from the survey we sent out in June to help shape program topics for 2009-10. Based on the results, you asked for programs focused on Networking, Leadership Skills, and Marketing, Advertising & PR. First up is our Kick-Off Event to be held Wednesday, September 16th at Washington St. Ale House in downtown Wilmington. This evening event is a great opportunity to share your summer memories with fellow attendees, as well as to learn what NAWBO has on tap for the coming year. More details on this fun and informative program will be coming soon. In the meantime, mark the date on your calendar! The Program Committee needs your help! One of the best ways to make sure your NAWBO chapter delivers programs of interest to you and others is to get involved. The Program Committee meets monthly to discuss upcoming programs. The committee also works closely with the Corporate Partners Committee to secure event sponsors. Finally, members of the committee will have an essential role in the selection of workshop topics and presenters at our annual "Education Day Event." All it takes to be involved is a couple of hours a month, a sense of humor, and the desire to make a difference in the success of fellow women business owners.
