A Message from the President of NAWBO Delaware
by Carol E. Arnott, CFP, CDFA, ChFC

So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu- familiar words from a familiar, and beloved, movie. As I write this final message as President of NAWBO Delaware, and say adieu, I reflect back on the last three years of my involvement and realize how fortunate I am to have been a part of this great association. Not only have I made business connections and wonderful friendships but I have learned so much about leading a non-profit organization and growing it just like a business. From my initial involvement as the Membership Chair, reaching out to new and prospective members, to developing and managing the events as Program Chair, to the leadership where, as President, I have had the pleasure of interacting with community leaders, corporate partners and, of course, the members, it has been both personally and professionally rewarding. Being aligned with NAWBO has opened doors and created opportunities that might not have existed without the benefit of a nationally recognized organization. Meeting with staffers from Senator Biden and Senator Carper's offices to discuss issues affecting small businesses, being recognized as the 2008 Small Business Administration Women in Business Champion of the Year, and having my business featured in the New York Times all came about as a direct result of my involvement with NAWBO.

I want to thank all my board members for being supportive and for helping to shape NAWBO Delaware. On Thursday, May 15th, at Harry's Savoy Grill, we will install our incoming board and recognize our 2008 honorees including the Business Owner of the Year. Visit our calendar of upcoming events for details and please join me for this terrific evening of celebration. RSVP today!

And to quote another great film character, Ferris Bueller, 'Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it'. As I step aside to make way for new leadership in NAWBO Delaware, I'm going to take some time to look around and fill my time with my business and other endeavors that bring passion to my life. Adieu!

Building Leaders. Building Businesses. NAWBO Delaware is here for you.

Member Spotlight                 Everest AutoWorks & AutoSpa

Tonya Porter and her husband, Christian, are the owners and operators of Everest AutoWorks & AutoSpa in Newark, DE. They are proud to be the first and only car care business in Delaware that was designed specifically around the unique needs of women.

More than 80% of Everest customers are women and thanks to a loyal customer base a large part of their growth has come from happy customers telling others about our business.

Everest may be the cleanest, most comfortable, and most unique repair shop in Delaware. Customers can relax in soft leather chairs while surfing wireless internet or watching hi-def plasma TV. "Our goal" says Tonya, "was to create the most female-friendly repair shop in existence. Feedback from our customers has told us we achieved that goal."

The perfect compliment to Everest's "honest service with no games" policy, is the full 2yr/24k warranty on all work. "Women want dependability and to know they are getting what they pay for when their car is serviced." says Christian. "We offer the best warranty in the auto repair business because our customers deserve nothing less."

Since day one the focus has been to take exceptionally good care of the automotive needs of women. In addition to supporting various local women's charities, Everest conducts an exclusive Women's Car Care Clinic monthly. Tonya says "Our clinics are designed to help women become more informed and independent when it comes to taking care of their vehicles."

Located at 690 Kirkwood Hwy in Newark next to Perkins Restaurant Everest AutoWorks was established in July of 2005. Contact Tonya and Christian at 302-737-8424 or [email protected]. More information about Everest can be found at www.everestautoworks.com.
