I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day. It doesn't
matter whether you are in a relationship or not as long
as you spent the day "in love"; partner, children, friends
or pets. As I look out the window at the beautiful
sunshine it's hard to believe yesterday was cold and
snowy. That's springtime in Colorado!
Quick!
What color is a yield sign? The answer is red. Yes, I
know; I thought it was yellow too. If you answered
correctly that means that you learned to drive in 1971
or later. Yield signs were changed from yellow to red
in 1971.
So what's my point? My point is that
some of our beliefs are out dated or just plain wrong.
What we believe about ourselves and our world is
embedded in our subconscious mind. And that is
what
makes change so hard. In order to effect significant
change you have to gain access to your subconscious
mind; a tough thing for most of us to do. I have been
using a new technique called Psych-K on myself, my
husband and my clients with surprisingly good
outcomes; at least to my skeptical mind. Psych-K
uses kinesthetics to create a whole brain state which
allows subconscious beliefs to be replaced with
beliefs that will serve you instead of holding you back.
Think of this process as erasing old files from the
hard drive on your computer.
As you know, I
broke my wrist last June, but what most of you don't
know is that my daughter broke her wrist May 1. She
slipped on wet grass while running to first base. I took
it really hard and blamed myself because I knew the
tread on her tennis shoes was gone. But since
school was almost over I didn't want to buy her new
tennis shoes she would out grow by fall. During my
first Psych-K
session, I balanced for "when things happen to those I
love, I remain calm and realize sometimes things just
happen." So I left my session feeling better and
forgetting all about it. Then I fell. I sat on the path in
Gregory Canyon looking at my wrist, realizing it was
broken but I could get up and deciding to call my
husband. It wasn't until I was taking the training class
that I realized how different my reaction was. In the
past, I would have called myself stupid and told myself
I was too fat and too old to be hiking. What a
change in my belief system!
If you are
stuck
and not reaching your goals and dreams even though
you try your best, Psych-K might be for you. I would
love to meet with you and introduce you to this
powerful paradigm for change.

Summary of "Healing Trauma - What Everyone Should Know" - with Jasmin Cori.
Reclaiming life after trauma
A trauma is any overwhelming experience which
strains your ability to cope and may be life
threatening.
But as Jasmin Cori told us there are little "t" traumas
such as the loss of marriage, job or business. And
the little traumas can pile up on us and trigger a big
trauma. We can even have an experience we may not
realize is a trauma, but it can leave a "track" to let us
know we have been traumatized. These "tracks"
include:
- overstimulation
- dissociation
- physical ailments
- anxiety
- gaps in memory
- disturbing images related to the trauma both when
sleeping and awake
- thinking problems such as not remembering
simple things
- numbing both physical and emotional
These issues, left unattended, can result in
depression, chronic fatigue and pain, anxiety and
many other problems
So what can we do?
First of all, realize that everyone reacts differently to
trauma depending on age, available support system
and number of traumas over a lifetime. It is also
important to understand that how helpless an
individual felt also effects the reaction to
trauma.
Secondly, remember that healing is a
journey with some common tasks; learning to stay
present, clearing the trauma from the body and
integrating the experience. There is not one
therapeutic modality that is best. Again, that depends
on the person.
If you know someone who
has been traumatized, you can help by being a
compassionate, patient and calming
presence.
Jasmin has written a wonderful
book called Healing from Trauma: A Survivor's
Guide to Understanding Your Symptoms And
Reclaiming Your Life. The book is available at the
Boulder Bookstore or from Jasmin at
