What wonderful weather we have enjoyed the past week! At this time of year I have a habit of taking sometime in the morning to walk around my yard. It seems everyday the daffodils and tulips have grown an inch and the buds on the trees get bigger each time I look. Life begins again.

Tuesday started out as any other Tuesday. I got my daughter to school and my husband to work and I went to yoga class. As I got there a few minutes early, I talked with the instructor. She said something I have been thinking about for days. She said in yoga, it's the form that matters; strength and balance will come if the form is correct. That simple statement begs a question, one I have been asking myself the last couple of days.

What is the "form" of your life? Is your "form" correct? Are you living your values? Do you remember what is important each day or do you get caught up in the crisis that the day may bring? Are you walking in forgiveness, or holding on to things? If the "form" of your life is correct, the peace and joy will follow.

Are you ready for the next session of Soul Food? I am excited about the great speakers and wonderful topics for you to enjoy. Read on!

Summary of "Contemplative Living - What's in it for me?" with Joanne Buchanan-Brown.
 Contemplation as self-care

Modern life is very interesting, isn't it? We are all about progress because, after all, the future is better than the present; it's the promised land. But as Joanne pointed out, the future eventually becomes the present. Then what?

Contemplation is about being in the space and silence to be present in the Now. We need contemplative time for a better life; to be refreshed and restored. Joanne gave us three reasons to make sure we have that quite time each day.
  1. Contemplation helps us live a more spacious life so we can sit back and not rush ahead with an answer. We can observe and ponder.
  2. Contemplation allows us to live a life more in the present. Therefore we have a more rewarding life while we have our life.
  3. Contemplation helps heal the world. It allows us to change our corner of the world and therefore touch the part of the world we contact.

And it's not hard to get to that contemplative place. Joanne suggested walking, sittling quietly in nature, coloring mandalas or looking softly into a candle. My favor was to sit and place my hands just below my belly button and say,
Be still and know that I am God.
Be still and know.
Be still.
Be.
