Spring is on the way. Have you noticed that the sun rises before 7:00 am and sets after 5:30 PM? I am always grateful when I don't get up in total darkness!

I have a riddle for you. What has four wings and flies? If you answered a dragonfly you are correct, but the answer could also be two birds. The point of the riddle is that sometimes the answer to a question or a problem is not where you expect it to be. If you are trying to solve a particular problem or issue, but can't seem to get anywhere, try looking for two birds instead of a dragonfly.

My sister-in-law is an incredible person. She raised five children, all adults now, and for as long as I have know her, she has had a sign which says "You don't have to be caught up to be in control". Now that's wisdom. She gave me about five tips for reducing stress. The first three we all know; exercise, eat nutritious foods and get enough sleep. But the last two were new to me and are definitely gems.

The fourth one was to hope for, rather than expect, things to happen a certain way. When you set expectations for people and situations, you run the risk of being disappointed, which will only increase your stress level. How many times have you been sure something was going to happen; you were going to get the new job, the promotion, or an "A" on a test. Ouch, did it hurt when it didn't happen. If you hope something will happen, you have the opportunity to prepare for the reality that it may not come to pass.

But this last one is the best. Do something permanent each day! Each day the bed has to be made, the dishes done and the laundry never ends. But take the time to do something lasting each day. Write in a journal, teach someone a skill, give service or create a work of art. You will gain a sense of satisfaction from accomplishing something that will last past tomorrow. I always have to clean up my office, but the colors on the wall are just as rich and beautiful as they were I first painted the room.

Summary of "The Dark Goddess" with Ruby Rain
Ancient Lessons For Working With The Feminine Shadow

Rabbi Ruby Rain spoke about getting in touch with your Feminine Shadow at our last Soul Food. We discussed ancient feminine rituals, including honoring your "moon time". During women's menses, they were separated from the community. This was a time of honoring the body and being open to dreams and intuition.

Ruby lead us on a "journey", which you can take any time with intention to help you understand a specific problem or answer a question. The first step is to fix your eyes on a point on the ceiling and relax. When your eyes are tired allow them to close. See yourself in a large cave with a huge caldreon over a fire. See the other women gathered and feel the heat. Then ask for your guide to come to you. Notice what she looks like and what she is wearing. Then go with her as she takes you down the stairway to trapdoor at the bottom. Note the objects you find along the way. You may go as far along the stairway as you wish and you may come back anytime you wish. Be open to what you see and find.

Ruby offers workshops on the Feminine Shadow and rites of passage rituals. You many contact her at rubyrain@msn.com.
