What to do with conflict
| |
"Ministry would be so much easier -- so much more efficient -- if we could just cancel conflict!" Do you agree? Well, agree or not, the fact is conflict is not going away. So we're left with options:
Hide
A guy was telling his friend that he and his wife had a serious argument the night before. "But it ended," he said, "when she came crawling to me on her hands and knees." "What did she say?" asked the friend. The husband replied, "She said, 'Come out from under that bed, you coward!" As a Christian leader, we can't afford to hide from issues. (See Gideon in hiding)
Deny
<Yelling> "Conflict? What conflict? I don't hear hovering helicopters, machine gun fire, or bunker busting bombs!! Would you pass me a dinner mint?" (See the unbelieving in denial on the Day of the Lord)
Attack
On the flip side of the hiders and deniers are the attackers. They've sharpened their fighting skills; they're primed to take on all comers. If they have to hunt conflict down, all the better, because their adrenaline will be flowing and their veins bulging. (See Samson dealing with the Philistines)
Address
Scripture makes it clear that we will have conflict, that we must address it, and that learning to deal with it appropriately is even part of our discipleship and leadership training. (See Eph. 4:20--5:2)
Addressing conflict requires faith, courage... and skill! That's why we are offering the Making Conflict Constructive training for church leaders on November 12. See details below or online. Don't miss this opportunity to be trained and to train ministry teams from your church! ~ David Yetter

A book worth a look...

A few CPWers have recently read Necessary Endings by Henry Cloud and have been challenged to consider "what all of us have to give up in order to move forward."

CPW News
| A great Convivio (Fellowship) was held last month with several of our Spanish-speaking congregations participating (see photo at top of this page)! Luis Lopez was the host pastor. Great music, fellowship, training, food and fun!! The event was coordinated by the Equipo Vital (Latino LEAD Team).
Many CPW pastors and wives enjoyed the beauty, fellowship, and biblical challenge provided at Hume Lake's Pastor's Retreat last month! (See picture to the left) The Life Journal Blog of Converge PacWest has launched! This is a super Bible-reading program that some of our pastors and people utilize. Follow and interact with our bloggers as "iron sharpens iron!" CPW accepts online giving now! Give to a church planter, a project, or the core budget of CPW! Your gifts allow this ministry to exist and expand the scope of starting and strengthening churches here, near, and far away! If you haven't already, would you complete a simple church Website Survey representing your church? It has only 10 questions and will take less than 5 minutes. Thanks! Interested in traveling to Israel? Check out the trip that John and Debbie Merritt are leading in February 2012 or the trip led by Rick Moe and David Yetter in November 2012.

CONVERGE church planting update
| Converge USA is looking to plant at least 351 churches from 2010 to 2015.
Converge is committed to starting churches because they're convinced it is one of the most effective ways to share the gospel and see people come to Christ.
Here's a link to the latest info coming from the Church Planting Think Tank (See if you can find Paul Root in the video!).

Join us on a Prayer and Fasting Day, October 11
|
Below are some "starter" requests. If you'd like a request added to the Prayer Day list, please send them to Sandy by Monday, the 10th. Pastor Jän van Oosten of NewCov in Fresno has completed three series of chemo treatments. Ask the Lord to give him strength, hope and daily help. Ask the Lord to assist CPW Churches (listed below) who are looking to fill staff positions in their churches. Dr. Andy Acquistapace (retired from ministries in Oakland and Alameda) is improving and continuing his physical therapy at home after having a stroke. Pray that CPW will Delight God by starting and strengthening churches that transform lives and communities here, near, and far away. Lillie Gonzalez, Church Planting Assistant with CPW, is recovering at home after her back surgery last month. Also pray for the CPW Staff as they cover her duties for a couple more months. Roger Erickson, long time CPW Board Member and member of Fair Oaks of Concord, is grieving the loss of his wife, Edna. He has moved to Southern California with his son and daughter-in-law. The Mobilization Team will be meeting on October 19 to plan, implement, and evaluate CPW's church strengthening ministries.
