Discouragement Alert!

The pastor was having a tough summer Sunday. He was picking up candy wrappers after being the last-minute substitute teacher for an unruly Junior High Sunday School class. He allowed himself to mutter what he thought was some well-deserved self-pitying: "Nobody listens to me, everyone disrespects me... the whole world is against me!"

Candy Wrapper

An unnoticed Junior High holdover was also picking up trash. He unexpectedly interrupted the pastor's griping with this bit of encouragement: "That's not true, pastor. Some people don't even know you."

Summer Sundays - and other Summer days - can take their toll on church leaders.

   Two quick thoughts... with questions:

  1. Jesus' invitation: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" Matthew 11:28. Are you regularly going to and being refreshed in Jesus?
  2. Paul's reminder: "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up" Galatians 6:9. Are you remembering that harvest-time fruitfulness and joy will overshadow summertime labors... if we don't give up?

Please, for the sake of our King and His kingdom, don't give up.
