 HRC Applauds Federal Appeals Court Ruling Against DOMA        

   

 The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today applauded a ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in which it upheld a lower court's decision that the denial of federal rights and benefits to lawfully-married same-sex couples is unconstitutional.  The ruling - authored by President George H.W. Bush appointee Judge Boudin for the three judge panel - comes in two cases: Gill v. Office of Personnel Management, brought by Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders on behalf of married Massachusetts same-sex couples who were denied specific federal rights and benefits and Massachusetts v. Department of Health and Human Services, brought by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts itself.  

 


 

LGBT Investors Express Confidence About Retirement Goals, According to Wells Fargo Study

 Investors are faced with complex challenges when it comes to retirement, including: how to save enough to feel comfortable, where to invest retirement savings, understanding and creating retirement income options, and when and where to retire. LGBT investors (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) face these same challenges as well as several unique ones, including those stemming from a lack of federal marriage and inheritance rights.

 SEIU Passes Resolution to Support Transgender Workers    

         

Recently, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), applauded the member-delegates of the 2.1 million-member Service Employees International Union (SEIU) for passing a resolution at their 2012 national conference in Denver yesterday.  The resolution states that SEIU local groups and members will bargain for transgender-inclusive heath care coverage as part of their contract negotiations with businesses and employers.
