 Tax Day Serves as Reminder of Second-Class Citizenship for LGBT Americans                               


With the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) still on the books and marriage equality a reality in only six states and the District of Columbia, millions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans will once again file tax returns as second-class citizens. The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBT civil rights organization, is educating Americans about the unfair tax burden faced by the LGBT community due to the few states where their relationships are recognized and the federal prohibition on recognition because of DOMA.  Discriminatory tax laws will cost LGBT families significantly more in taxes, and will deny them access to a whole range of federal benefits.

 


 

GLAAD and Miss Universe Organization Announce Inclusion of Transgender Women in Its Competitions

 GLAAD, the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, and the Miss Universe Organization are pleased to announce that after more than two weeks of discussions, the Miss Universe Organization is close to finalizing an official policy change that will allow women who are transgender to participate in its beauty competitions.

NASHVILLE CVB PROMOTES CITY AS A PREMIERE LGBT TOURISM DESTINATION       

 

 Creative, diverse, friendly, unpretentious and welcoming are words often used to describe Nashville, Music City. It has long been a destination rich in cultural, musical and entertainment options that appeal to everyone, including the LGBT traveler. That is why the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau, in conjunction with OUTreach Public Relations, is targeting LGBT media in an effort to increase awareness of Music City as a gay tourism destination.
