2011 Gay and Lesbian Travel Survey Results Announced

Findings from Community Marketing, Inc.`s (CMI) 16th Annual Gay & Lesbian Tourism Study have been announced. This year, CMI had over 10,000 LGBT participants take the survey.

Some Key Results for North American LGBT Travelers

1. Overall, the LGBT community has increased their travel in the last year, compared to the year before. Most destinations surveyed increased LGBT travel by 1 to 3% in the past year. This is in contrast to the last two years, which saw a decrease in LGBT travel due to the global economic recession.

Human Rights Campaign Gives Consumers Information to Buy for Workplace Equality

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the educational arm of the nation's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today released the popular guide to hundreds of American brands rated on businesses' treatment of LGBT employees.  "Buying for Workplace Equality 2012" divides businesses and their consumer products into red, yellow and green categories based on their score on HRC Foundation's Corporate Equality Index, a nationally recognized benchmark of LGBT inclusion.  The guide is available for download and viewing online at www.hrc.org/BuyersGuide.

New HRC Poll Finds Vast Majority of Voters Support Employment Anti-Discrimination Laws for LGBT Americans

As another indicator that public opinion continues to shift in favor of fairness, the vast majority of Americans support employment non-discrimination laws protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people from discrimination, according to new polling released today by the Human Rights Campaign in partnership with Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research.  In perhaps the most compelling finding, support for employment protections spans an array of demographics including: the majority of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Catholics, Protestants, weekly churchgoers, and even born again Christians, and across age and race.  There is currently no federal non-discrimination law covering sexual orientation or gender identity and only limited state protections.  Legislation to address this issue, the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA), is pending in Congress.  HRC is working with allies on Capitol Hill to increase the number of cosponsors and build support to pass ENDA.
