New Research Answers Question: How Many LGBT People Are There In The United States?

Williams Institute's Analysis, Based On Results From Six Surveys, Estimates LGBT Population At 9 Million Americans

The Williams Institute, a leading think tank dedicated to the field of sexual orientation and gender identity-related law and public policy, released new research that estimates the size of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in the United States.  Drawing on information from four recent national and two state-level population-based surveys, the analyses suggest that there are more than 8 million adults in the US who are lesbian, gay, or bisexual, comprising 3.5% of the adult population.  There are also nearly 700,000 transgender individuals in the US.  In total, the study suggests that approximately 9 million Americans - roughly the population of New Jersey - identify as LGBT.  The study was released coinciding with the Institute's 10th anniversary, to be honored at UCLA Law School from April 7-9.  It can be viewed online at: http://www2.law.ucla.edu/williamsinstitute

2011 INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS EQUALITY INDEX

Already 25 Corporations have registered! Register your Corporation today!

IGLCC is thrilled with the response following the launch of the 2011 registrations. In fact, in three weeks only, 25 corporations have already registered to take part in the International Business Index.

IBM, Google, BT Group, Morgan Stanley and Cisco Systems were respectively the Top 5 corporations in the 2010 Index. Their actions to create positive change have earned them the respect and admiration of the global LGBT community. "The enthusiastic participation of so many firms in the 2010 Index, along with the addition of NGOs and Law Firms marking its steady growth, is a solid affirmation of the increasing role global corporations are playing in introducing and championing diversity wherever they have a presence", said the IGLCC Founding President & Secretary General, Mr. Pascal Lépine.

Out Magazine Presents the 5th Annual Power 50

50 most powerful gay men and women in America

In times of upheaval, power changes hands fast. It's no surprise, then, that two of the top 10 names on Out magazine's 5th annual Power 50 list are new entries. Or that one of those two newbies - Apple's Tim Cook - shot to the top of the list. Television and the Internet remain fertile ground for LGBT talent and power to flourish, with five more of the top 10 coming from talk shows, news programs, or tablet launches. As always, the positions were determined by a range of factors, including power to influence cultural and social attitudes, political clout, individual wealth, and a person's media profile.

NBA Commissioner Stern Issues $100,000 Fine for Offensive Outburst

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, applauded the National Basketball Association (NBA) and its commissioner, David Stern, for their immediate action following the homophobic slur unleashed by Lakers star Kobe Bryant at a referee last night when he received a technical foul.  Bryant yelled "f***ing f**got" at the basketball official which was caught on camera and obvious to anyone watching the game with the San Antonio Spurs.
