Inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act Introduced in U.S. House
Bill to Ban Job Discrimination Part of Economic Empowerment Agenda for LGBT Community. The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, hailed today's bipartisan reintroduction of an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would create federal protections against workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The bill is a critical piece of an economic empowerment agenda for the LGBT community, as detailed in a recent memo by HRC: www.hrc.org/documents/EconomicEmpowerment.pdf. |

Boehringer Ingelheim Recognized for its Diversity and Inclusion Efforts
Company commended for its LGBT equality, advancement of women, and diversity councils
Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation recently was recognized for its diversity and inclusion program based on its policies and practices in three areas.
On March 23, the company was honored as one of the "Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality" by The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization. The "Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality" distinction is awarded to businesses that scored 100 percent on the HRC Foundation's 2011 Corporate Equality Index, the primary method for businesses to benchmark and evaluate their policies, practices and diversity efforts relating to LGBT workers. The index evaluates non-discrimination policies, benefits, diversity training and other internal resources for LGBT workers, as well as external support for the LGBT community. Read on...

IT`S TIME TO END JOB DISCRIMINATION, SAY WORKPLACE ADVOCATES
`It`s just good business-a diverse, committed, energized workforce contributes more to a company than employees who are struggling to cope with the impacts of discrimination.
Out & Equal Workplace Advocates applauds the reintroduction of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace. Federal legislation is needed because only thirteen states, plus the District of Columbia, provide protections that include both sexual orientation and gender identity, while an additional eight states cover sexual orientation only. This leaves employees in 60% of the United States vulnerable to harassment and discrimination on the job without any legal recourse.
