New Williams Institute Study Finds Civil Unions in Delaware Would Have Limited Impact on State Budget

Most of the impact to the state budget comes from decreasing the tax burden on same-sex couples and increase public employee benefits spending.

A new research study released today by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law shows that allowing same-sex couples to enter civil unions in Delaware would increase business activity but would reduce net state revenue by a small amount, or less than $400,000 a year. Civil unions would equalize the tax paid by same-sex couples and increase public employee benefits spending. The state budget would gain from reduced public assistance spending, increases in spending and tourism tax revenue, and civil union license fees.

Colorado Senate Passes Civil Unions Bill

The bill will next be considered by the House of Representatives

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, commends the Colorado Senate for passing a comprehensive civil unions bill. The legislation passed by a 23 to 12 vote, and now moves to the House of Representatives.

"Legislators in Colorado have taken an important action to advance equality for all Coloradans," said HRC President Joe Solmonese. "We call on the Colorado House to swiftly follow the Senate's lead on this crucial legislation."

The Melting Pot Restaurants Targets The Gay Community For Franchise Recruitment

The popular dining franchise has launched a marketing initiative to recruit more Gay/Lesbian franchisees

The concept of "The Melting Pot" originated in American literature during the 19th century as hordes of immigrants from many different countries immigrated to the United States. America's own melting pot of diverse cultures and national origins are slowly including the gay and lesbian community as a part of that blend.

In the spirit of that concept, The Melting Pot Restaurants Inc. has recently reached out to include the gay and lesbian community as an integral part of their franchise sales initiative. As a sponsor of GayFranchise.com, The Melting Pot opens their doors to embrace the incredible opportunity of connecting with the LGBT business community.

From The Floor

2011 Commentary

Back on my old stomping grounds at the New York Stock
Exchange trading floor yesterday, I was able to find a human
being or two to talk with about what was happening in the
market, and what they thought about the market and their predictions for 2011. The trading floor now has fewer than 300 brokers (down from 1633) and even fewer clerks minding the maze of machines, flat panel screens, and blinking lights demanding someone's (anyone's) attention. To me, it's become a creepy place. The TV charade - that there is someone on the trading floor who can make a decision, and thus prevent 1000 point meltdowns. That used to be the case when I walked the hardwood floor. Today, there is this sense of security that the American Public is supposed to feel when there are few bodies running around down there, like there is someone actually flying the plane. Who would want to fly in a plane that didn't have a pilot? Who would trust a stock market that was nothing but
computers and algorithms?
