Recently, Freedom to Marry announced the launch of "Why Marriage Matters," the largest-ever national public education campaign aimed at increasing majority support for ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage.
Freedom to Marry will be running ads nationwide featuring gay, lesbian and straight couples talking about why marriage matters to them. The organization has pledged to raise and spend $10 million over the next three years on the Why Marriage Matters campaign, which will launch during Freedom to Marry Week on Valentine's Day with an initial national cable buy on CNN. New Williams Institute Study Finds Marriage for Same Sex Couples in Rhode Island Would Boost State Budget by Over $1 million
Most of the new revenue to the state is gained through increased income taxes paid by married same-sex couples
A new research study released today by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law shows that allowing same-sex couples to marry in Rhode Island would boost the state budget by more than $1 million over three years. This net impact would result from an increase in state income and sales tax revenue as well as savings in expenditures on state means-tested public benefit programs.

Breaking the Stereotype of LGBTQ Language The conference bears witness to the legitimacy of LGBTQ language studies The world's only conference focusing on the importance of language-broadly defined-in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered life will be held at American University from Friday, February 11, through Sunday, February 13. It will focus on the importance of communication and activism as it relates to sexual identity and orientation. The Lavender Languages and Linguistic Conference will serve as the launchpad for the creation of the first-ever journal devoted entirely to the study of Language and Sexuality-The Journal of Language and Sexuality. American University's Bill Leap will coedit this international journal with Heiko Moschenbaker of the University of Bayreuth. The first issue is expected in 2012. |
