Lesbians and Gays Remain More Hopeful about U.S. Economy and Personal Finances
30% of gay and lesbian adults agree overall they feel more secure, while the same can be said of just 19% of heterosexual adults` As the U.S. economy shows added signs of recovery and stability, a new national poll asked a broad cross-section of Americans their expectations for the economy's improvement nationally as well as their feelings about their own financial circumstances. Three-quarters (74%) of all Americans believe the economy will improve or remain the same this year, however four in ten gay and lesbian adults (39%) expect the 2011 economy to improve, while that optimistic attitude is held by only 29% of heterosexual adults. Based on several earlier surveys conducted by Harris Interactive, lesbians and gay men have consistently held more optimistic views on the economy.

Free seminar helps address significant hiring bias against the transgender community
The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender civil rights organization, announced today it will hold the inaugural event of its Back to Work project in Boston on February 26-27, 2011. The Back to Work project empowers transgender people who are unemployed or underemployed to find jobs that match their expertise and experience by providing them with essential skills needed to make the most of the job market. The Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC), the Boston Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Youth (BAGLY), AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts (AAC) and MassEquality are cosponsors of the event, which will be hosted by AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts.

Market Research: Employment Discrimination in Utah UCLA'S Williams Institute Releases New Study Finding 44% Of LGB People And 66% Transgender People In Utah Report Employment Discrimination
Today, the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law released a new research study providing evidence of employment discrimination against LGBT people in Utah. The study analyzes data from a 2010 survey conducted by Equality Utah, the state's first survey on employment discrimination against LGBT Utahns. The study shows that substantial percentages of LGBT people in Utah have experienced discrimination and continue to fear discrimination in the workplace.

The Road To Lindy & Grundy in LA By Maria Cohen
First time business owners Erika Nakamura (age 30) and her wife Amelia Posada (age 28) will be opening Lindy & Grundy in LA in December. They will be featuring locally sourced meats and have been trained by top butcher Joshua Applestone of Fleisher's Grass-Fed & Organic Meats in Kingston, NY. Posada and Nakamura fell into butchering, after having careers as a floral designer and chef, respectively. Posada was a Journalism and Latin American Studies major at CUNY-Brooklyn College in New York City and Nakamura was a Visual Arts major at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. So how did the women, who were both vegetarians at one point during their lives, get on the path to running a small business butcher shop?
