HRC Calls on the Republican National Committee to
Reject Texas Republican Party Platform
Anti-LGBT Language in Platform a Threat to
Texas Families
The Human Rights Campaign - the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization - today condemned the
Texas State Republican Party for including anti-LGBT language in its
2010 State Party Platform. The language, which goes far beyond the usual
conservative talking points on "traditional family values," sinks to a
new low of intolerance and hate. In an email to members and supporters
nationwide, HRC is calling on RNC Chairman Michael Steele to publicly
repudiate the anti-LGBT language in the State Party Platform.

Research Suggests Nearly One-Third of Gay Employees
in Hong Kong Suffer Employment Discrimination
Experiencing Discrimination Linked to
Negative Psychological Outcomes; Less-Educated Most Likely To Suffer
The first-ever peer-reviewed study on sexual orientation discrimination
in Hong Kong's workforce found that 29.3 percent of gays and lesbians
suffered employment discrimination within the five years studied
(2003-2008). The research, based on a survey of 792 sexual orientation
minorities, is being published by the Employee Responsibilities and
Rights Journal in an article titled "Employment Discrimination Based
on Sexual Orientation: A Hong Kong Study."

Draft Rule on Hospital Visitation
Agency Seeks Public Comment on Measure
Barring Discrimination in Visitation Policies
The Human Rights Campaign today praised the
release of a draft regulation requiring all hospitals receiving Medicare
and Medicaid funding to adopt policies that protect the visitation
rights of all patients, including LGBT people. The draft language
requires hospitals to adopt written policies and procedures regarding
patient visitation rights, including the right to designate visitors of
one's choosing, "including, but not limited to, a spouse, a domestic
partner (including a same-sex domestic partner), another family member,
or a friend," and the right to visitation privileges regardless of
sexual orientation or gender identity. According to HHS, the draft rule
will be published in the Federal Register on June 28 and the agency will
solicit public comments on the proposal for 60 days..
