`Don`t Ask, Don`t Tell` on Path to Repeal This Week
White House, Pentagon and Congress Outline
Consensus Legislative Option
The ban on open military service by lesbian and gay Americans is on a
path to repeal this week with the White House, Pentagon leaders and
Congress outlining a process that includes votes in the House and Senate
as early as Thursday. Legislation to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
will be considered as amendments to the National Defense Authorization
bill - the same vehicle by which the law was enacted 17 years ago. The
Obama administration endorsed the approach today in a letter to
Congressional leaders from Office of Management and Budget Director

Realistic Window of Opportunity to Secure Repeal Now
Servicemembers United, the nation's largest organization of gay and
lesbian troops and veterans, commended the announcement today that the
administration will now support an amendment to the National Defense
Authorization Act to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law this year.
The proposed amendment would include a delayed implementation provision
that would not allow repeal to take effect until the Pentagon's
Comprehensive Review Working Group completed its nine-month
implementation management study and until the President, the Secretary
of Defense, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff certified that
the military is ready to implement repeal smoothly. Read on... |
The Chicago Community Trust Announces The Lesbian,
Gay Bisexual, Transgender Community Fund The Trust commits $500,000 towards new fund
The Chicago Community Trust, metropolitan Chicago's community
foundation, is pleased to announce the establishment of The Lesbian,
Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Fund at The Chicago Community
Trust. The new fund has been created with grants of $500,000 from the
Trust and a $200,000 challenge and operating grant from The Elizabeth
Morse Charitable Trust.

Levi`s Ties The Marriage Equality Knot By Teaming
Up With White Knot For Equality For Second Consecutive Year
Iconic White Knot symbol to be displayed and
available in Levi`s stores nationwide
As part of its ongoing commitment to equality, the Levi'sŪ brand is once
again partnering with White Knot for Equality in support of same-sex
marriage. White Knot for Equality is a non-profit organization dedicated
to achieving equal rights for the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender) population. In solidarity with White Knot's mission,
Levi'sŪ is expanding on its existing partnership with White Knot by
displaying white ribbons in all Levi'sŪ stores nationwide beginning this
week through the end of June 2010. As part of the program, mannequins
will be outfitted with white ribbons, a symbol that combines two
traditional signs of marriage - white and tying the knot. To further
support the program, all stores will have a limited supply of white
ribbons for employees and customers who want to show their support for
