Lieberman to Introduce Senate `Don`t Ask, Don`t Tell` Repeal Bill

Senate Bill to Be Introduced After Weeks of Momentum-Building Advancements for Repeal

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, applauded Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT)'s statement that he will introduce a bill in the Senate to repeal the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law that bars openly gay and lesbian Americans from serving in the military.  Lieberman made his intentions public this morning in a statement and during an interview with the New York Daily News, where Lieberman stated, "What matters is not the gender of the other person in your unit or the color or the religion or in this case the sexual orientation. amerflagPalm Center Releases Major Study Of Gays In Foreign Militaries

General David Petraeus, Commander of U.S. Central Command, on the review of `don`t ask, don`t tell`: `It will suggest the policies that could be used to implement a change if it does come to that, so that it could be as uneventful as it was, say, in the U.K. or the Israeli militaries or, indeed, in our own CIA and FBI.` February 21, 2010

The New York Times reported yesterday on the release of the largest ever study of gays in foreign militaries. The report, which is being released today by the Palm Center, concludes that foreign militaries that allow gays and lesbians to serve openly achieved success by implementing an inclusive policy quickly and under decisive leadership. The principal author of the study, "Gays in Foreign Militaries 2010: A Global Primer," is Dr. Nathaniel Frank, Senior Research Fellow at Palm, who last year published the book, "Unfriendly Fire: How the Gay Ban Undermines the Military and Weakens America." Also contributing to the report was top expert on the British military, Dr. Victoria Basham, as well as a retired Captain in the Canadian Forces and several social scientists who study gender, sexuality, and military personnel policy.

obamaWhy This Black Gay American Still Supports President Obama

By Earl D. Fowlkes, Jr.

In late August 2008, I had the opportunity to attend the Democratic National Convention. I listened carefully to the speeches of Michelle Obama, Mrs. Clinton, and President Bill Clinton. On August 28, 2008, I listened to Senator Barack Obama outline his soaring vision for America. I heard him speak on how he would address the sinking economy, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, health care reform, clean energy technology, and job creation.
