Introducing HRC`s Business Council

This post by Wesley Combs is the first of a regular column from HRC`s Business Council spotlighting LGBT workplace news.

As we enter Pride Month, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and our issues are front and center in communities, the media and sometimes at work. Being visible matters and people are much more likely to be supportive of LGBT issues if they know someone LGBT. Businesses are leading the way in ensuring inclusion for the LGBT community and here are a few examples. LGBT employee resource groups are helping management see how workplace policies often discriminate against LGBT workers. And, companies like Levi Strauss & Co are letting legislators and the public know that LGBT equality is a business issue through support of important legislation.

PLAY THINGS

Conjures low brow images that create a hyper-phallic landscape of dark and beautiful creatures,he calls his children. He sends them out into the world to find homes and to settle into people`s cozy, sedate lives
monroe

When shock photographer Justin Monroe was just a wee lad growing up in the Bible Belt's buckle of Oklahoma, little did he know his path was already being carved out for him, whether by having to battle religious zealots and violent nuns in Catholic School or running away with glitzy circus performers and carnies. All of these extreme situations helped shape Monroe to become one of the most profound and talked about artists of today

Gay and Lesbian Adults More Likely to Read Blogs and Use Social Networking Tools

New online study also shows gay and lesbian adults are more likely to be members of Facebook and MySpace

According to a recent national survey conducted by Harris InteractiveŽ, a small majority of gay and lesbian adults online today are reading blogs (a familiar, and abbreviated term for online commentary known as a weblog). More than half (55%) of gay and lesbian respondents reported reading some type of blog, compared with only 38% of heterosexuals. This represents a small increase from March 2008 when 51% of gay and lesbian respondents reported reading some type of blog. A similar question was asked in November 2006 and only 32% of gay and lesbian adults then reported reading blogs.
