Human Rights Campaign Applauds Obama Administration for Supporting UN Declaration Affirming Human Rights of LGBT People
|
|
Bush administration had previously refused to sign
The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's
largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization,
issued a statement today on the Obama
administration's announcement that it
formally endorsed a United Nations
declaration calling for an end to
discrimination and other human rights abuses
based on sexual orientation and gender
identity. The move is a reversal of the Bush
administration's refusal to sign the
statement, which made the United States the
only western nation not to support the
measure when presented by the U.N. General
Assembly in December.

Building Stronger Awareness for Transgender in Your LGBTQ Employee Resource Group
|
|
By Stephanie M. Dykes, Ph.D
There is a growing effort by many LGBT
employee resource groups to be more inclusive
of transgender expression. At the same time,
a growing number of transgender employees are
transitioning on the job. This confluence of
factors brings to the fore a key question for
many LGBT employee resource groups: how can
we make our group more trans-inclusive? This
in turn raises additional questions as the
components of our alphabet soup family strive
to understand each other better. This can be
a particularly vexing issue to deal with
because in even very large companies, most
transgender employees are in all likelihood
deeply closeted.

bidders won't be easy."
