Nearly 1,000 Volunteers Donate Time, Lend Their Muscle for a Day of Caring
Nearly 1,000 volunteers participated in United Way of Pierce County's 2009 Day of Caring, Friday September 18th. The community-wide volunteer event mobilizes teams of volunteers from multiple organizations throughout Pierce County to complete service projects on one day. The group included a team of 500 students, staff and faculty from the Tacoma School of the Arts as well as teams from 38 companies throughout the area. The Day of Caring event allows volunteers to lend their muscle to local organizations to build a stronger community. By volunteering for Day of Caring, team members learn more about their community and how volunteering can make a positive impact on the issues affecting our community. This year's Day of Caring projects included painting a building, helping serve meals at a food bank, assisting with landscaping needs, sprucing up a facility and art projects with kids and seniors.
