Renew Your Commitment to Community |
|
VOLUNTEER
As President Barack Obama takes office, he encourages Americans to "renew their commitment to community service." For those inspired to respond to his call, United Way of Pierce County's Volunteer Center can be a great place to start. The Volunteer Center connects people who want to volunteer with organizations who have opportunities for service. Find out how you can help. |

Community Rallies to Provide Flood Relief
In the wake of the recent flooding, many local organizations are teaming up to help flood victims. |
Pierce County Department of Emergency Management, United Way of Pierce County 2-1-1, The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Aging and Resource Disability Center, American Legion and Catholic Community Services have joined forces to ensure those displaced by the floods have shelter and other basic needs. As a result of this partnership, there are currently no outstanding needs.
If you or someone you know has been affected by the recent flooding, call 2-1-1 for non-emergency resources or register with American Red Cross. |

Partner Agency Shares Gift |
|
United Way of Pierce County's Gifts in Kind program often receives donations from local companies and individuals. This December a donation to a different agency became a gift for Gifts in Kind.
Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound received a donation of shoes to distribute to their club members. When they found themselves with a surplus of more than 200 pairs of shoes, they shared their excess with Gifts in Kind. The donation provided shoes to kids around the county just before the holiday.
If you have new or gently used items you'd like to donate, please contact Phyllis Roepke. | |

| Your Gift Makes a Difference |
When Ivan's family came to America, they were hoping to better provide for their family. One of the first steps was getting their children medical and dental care. But without enough money, that can be difficult.
Tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease in America. In Washington State, one in seven low-income children has unmet dental needs.
Ivan received a dental exam through Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children which revealed severe decay. He was treated through LDCC for his decay on the spot. Over the next three months, a series of appointments with Lindquist allowed them to save many of his teeth at no cost to the family.
Thanks to your gift, Ivan and 4,433 other children received critical dental care. |
