TPU Employees LIVE UNITED
When the Community Campaign began this fall it was already faced with the challenge of a weakening economy. But that didn't scare the coordinating team at Tacoma Public Utilities.
The core coordinating team of 15 led the charge and started meeting in June to plan the campaign. They had United Way partner agencies talk with them every week to learn more about how United Way investments are making a difference in our community. They held a training seminar to educate an additional 50 department coordinators to spread the word about the campaign.
Then the fun began. They held a raffle with each department submitting a basket and a barbecue. They gave Live United shirts to all leadership givers and had specified days throughout their campaign they could wear the t-shirt with jeans. |

The return on the team's investment has been a campaign that exceeded last year's and their goal for this year. TPU employees LIVE UNITED.

Zootastic2 A Roaring Success |
|
More than 100 families joined Project:U volunteers for an exhilarating day of learning at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium's Education Center on Sunday, November 2.
About 150 kids had the opportunity to visit a dozen booths during the day. Booths ranged from writing letters to deployed soldiers to a science activity where kids could test the pH levels of various household liquids. The Zoo joined in on the fun and brought two animals for the kids to view, including a furry bat and a very wide-eyed owl.
Zootastic2 was a FREE, fun and educational event for lower income elementary-age children in Pierce County sponsored by State Farm Insurance and organized by Project:U. |

Back To School Helps 1,100 Children
Each fall, many families struggle to stretch their paychecks to pay bills and provide clothes and supplies as their kids head back to school. Thanks to the generous donations as part of Back-To-School is Cool, 1,100 students were able to start school with supplies and a new outfit. This year, 91 sponsors pitched in to provide items worth nearly $25,000.
