Analyze the Angles. What is the goal of your event? What message do you want to convey? What speakers offer topics which speak to the heart of your goals?
Be Purposeful. Your organization or club's purpose should be reflected in your professional speaker's message. Check potential speakers' bios and preview their presentations or written materials.
Timing is everything. The speaker's schedule must align with yours. Call to determine if they have your desired dates open.
Relevance. Once you narrow your list to a few available speakers, consider the topics they offer. Determine the topics which are most relatable to your attendees.
Branch Out. Think outside your organization's immediate goals. What other students and audiences would find this topic to be interesting? In what other ways can the topic be spun to include more audience members?
Price Check. Confirm that your organization has the budget and resources to hire the speaker you want. Who pays for travel expenses, audio and visual equipment and handouts? Eliminate surprises and hidden costs by determining what is including in their speaking fee-and what is not.
Raise your hand. Will the speaker allow you to host a Q&A session afterwards? Most speakers know interaction with the speaker can be even more beneficial than the presentation itself.
