"The best experiences usually occur when a person's body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile. Optimal experience is thus something we make happen."
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi wote this in his 1990 book, Flow, introducing the positive psychology concept that has since been widely referenced and expanded upon.
Flow is the state in which a person is so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter. Flow is completely focused motivation. It is single-minded immersion in achieving a goal or task, while harnessing the mind and emotions in the service of performing and learning.
Flow is where we go when working out at SWERVE. You set out to accomplish your workout and there's your intention--a choice you've made to change things; one that will require challenge. This is the beginning. The basic step. Naturally, with the endorphins surging there's a point in every workout when happiness in the now just takes over. You've shifted into a new paradigm and it feels like time slows down.
This is the point in YBB when I remind students to reclaim their intentions. If I'm FLOWING in any activity, its when I call forward a big vision for the future and its when great shifts are made in my imagination, my brain and my consciousness. In FLOW, I know I'm One with everything and its not a thought or and idea--its an experience of being.
Get into your FLOW at SWERVE or anywhere. Now you know how to get there and what it is. Enhance and personalize the state by adding your big vision. You make it happen.
