Wayland Makes a Good Showing at the Wisconsin Junior Classsical  State Convention

Junior Classical League

Seventeen students from Wayland Academy traveled to Madison to compete at the State Convention of the Wisconsin Junior Classical League. There were contests creative and intellectual, as well as spirit competitions, dances, and time to meet new friends from around the state.

Ten students are given individual awards for winning the most points across all areas of competition. Jeff Benes `14 took 5th place and Laura Petersen `14 took 7th of the 500 students in attendance. Wayland Academy took 2nd place in Spirit and 1st place in qualitative sweepstakes, which divides the points earned by the school by the number from that school in attendance. In addition, Trenton McMaster `13 was elected 1st VP for the state board.

Recent Wayland Graduate Making a Difference

Megan_PetersenKnowledge and Character is Wayland's motto and one alumna has carried her character education experience from Wayland to the college level.

Wayland Welcomes New Director of Advancement

Greg ClancyWayland is pleased to welcome Gregory R. Clancy to the position of Director of Advancement. From his first day, it has been a whirlwind of meetings, greetings and other activities and tasks. Greg comes to Wayland from The Cambridge School of Weston, Weston, Massachusetts, where he was Director of Major Gifts.

Moving from a life spent in Massachusetts, to the Midwest has been a challenge. Greg, however, said he is up to the challenge, "moving to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, has been a great experience, except I learned a valuable lesson at lunch one day when I asked 'so, who did Bart Starr play for?' all around the table I saw jaws drop. From that moment on I knew there was going to be a learning curve."

Greg will oversee all of the functions of the Advancement Office (formerly called the Development Office) including fundraising, organizing events, sending out publications, and much more. Greg is a terrific asset for Wayland. He has great respect for tradition, although he also is bringing fresh ideas and new approaches to the Academy. His easygoing personality and sense of humor, combined with an ambitious and goal-oriented approach, make him a perfect fit for Wayland Academy. Feel free to email Greg to if you have any questions, wish to introduce yourself to him, or would simply like to be another person to welcome him to the Wayland Community.
