News from the farm.....
     Look what we brought home!!!

So last week, some of you noticed that we were  hauling a livestock trailer to the UNCA campus winter meat and egg sales.  Well.......look what we brought home.

 The new arrival

Ever since we went the Mountain State Fair and met the little miniature donkeys, I have wanted one.  That was about four years ago and I finally found this little guy.  Oh so cute and huggable.
His registered name is Milk Dud, but the kids are not fond of the Milk Dud candy and want to change it.  Were thinking Buddy.

Buddy is missing his mom right now and is trying to locate her by braying.  You know the "heehaw" sound, except he hasn't mastered this skill and his sounds like hehehe hahehe haw.   The sheep don't quite know what to think about him and will occasionally approach him.  Sometimes he nuzzles and sometimes he is a little grumpy (missing mom) and will give chase.

GroundLambMeatloaf

2 pounds East Fork Farm Ground Lamb

for a zing substitute 1# ground with 1 # spicy sausage

1 onion - chopped

2 cloves garlic - chopped

1/2 cup ketchup

2 cup bread crumbs

1 Egg

1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

 1 Teaspoon Salt

In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients.  Press into a bread loaf pan (line with foil to limit the mess).  Bake 45 to 55 minutes at 400 degrees.

Let me give you a hint about my meatloaf.  I had a hard time coming up with this recipe because I actually clean out my pantry when I make this.  Instead of bread crumbs, I will use the last bit of crackers, tortilla chips and even unsweetened cereal.  Sometimes I even sneak in some kelp powder (shhh - don't tell the kids). Instead of ketchup, I will use the last of the spaghetti sauce or tomato based marinade from the fridge.  When Madison saw me do this the first time, she was mortified......until she tried it.

Need a winter getaway???

Come visit the farm for a couple of days, unwind, relax, and soak in the cedar hot tub.   If your local (western North Carolina), we give a discount for $25 off per night through March (mention this newsletter to receive your discount).  With each stay, you get 1 pound of East Fork Farm lamb, 1 dozen of our finest eggs, 1 jar Imladris farm jelly, coffee from Asheville Coffee Roasters, Wild Mountain Apiaries honey, and local soap.  What are you waiting for, the hot tub is steaming.
