In this American Tackle Pro Staff project I used a blank and a guide set that i didn't know, the Matrix Steel Head

9´ 2 pc and the Ring Lock A- Frame guides. To complete the hardware I used an Aero-16 reel seat that its very comfortable to fish with.
Steel Head is something that we don't have in Portugal so after I made a few casts with the blank, I thought that this would be a very nice light saltwater Spinning rod. For the grip, I decided to make something different that revealed to be very comfortable. I used several eva half circles with trim rings in the middle to create a grip made with balls. Sounds strange, looks strange, but feels really well in the hand.
The graphic was very simple with an American flag and the Matrix and Pro Staff logos on it. Guide wraps made with grey, pearl and navy blue.
The recommended lure wt for this blank is ¼ - ½ 0z, perfect to use light baits to fish in harbors, piers or even on the beach trying to catch some Sea Bass, Mackerel and Needle fish. The fast action is perfect to animate small baits and easy to cast them.
First time I went fishing with this rod, I went to a pier to make some casts to understand the blank better and I have to say that it was love at first cast. It casts really easy and as I suspected the fast action makes it very easy to animate small baits.
As always when I try something new I like to abuse it a little and I fished with 1 oz bait. First with some care and after I gain confidence I pushed for this girl and she kept answering me with longer casts. When in combat the rod is very smooth and easy to use.
This Matrix Steel Head blank proves to be very versatile and I strongly recommend it to everyone that wants to have a fun light saltwater Spinning rod.
