Meet American Tackle Pro Staff Member Derwood Roberts
Growing up on the east coast of Central Florida, Capt. Derwood Roberts spent most of his time fishing with his father who ran an offshore charter boat. During his high school and college years Derwood earned an income as a mate or captain and gained experience as an offshore fishing guide. He fished on charter boats, commercial fishing boats and scuba dived for approx 20 years. Derwood started building fishing rods while still in college as a hobby. He would build rods when he couldn't go fishing. After college, Derwood built his own 35-foot sportfishing boat from a bare hull, which he operated as a charter boat for several years. He eventually moved into other fields but fishing always remained a constant. Currently working as a subcontract administrator for a major defense contractor, Derwood decided to start building rods for his own use and to relax. When his friends starting asking him to build rods for them at their specifications and colors, it led to a new venture and he started Adventurous Custom Rods.
"I use the best components available to satisfy my fellow fishermen," he says. "But I still enjoy fishing with my friends and family."
