Say Hello to Ben Stein...

Ben Stein (yes, that's his real name) is the newest addition to the American Tackle staff. Please help us welcome him as he will be assisting in our sales department.

Ben grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and began fishing at a very young age for redfish and speckled trout in the saltwater marshes of Lafitte, La.  Ben started fly fishing at the age of 7 with his first fly-caught redfish. This passion has carried him to exotic destinations such as Baja, Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela and Costa Rica, as well as traveling throughout the United States in search of all angling opportunities from chasing trout to battling billfish. While pursuing bonefish and tarpon, he managed to find enough time to work for World Wide Sportsman in Islamorada, Florida. After a move to Orlando to work for Bass Pro Shops, he was commissioned by Grande Lakes Ritz Carlton Orlando to assist in developing a fishing and outdoor program on the property. Ben began the first ever two-day fly fishing school associated with the Ritz Carlton and has taught hundreds (maybe thousands) in their fly fishing program as well as guiding them to trophy largemouth bass. He now spends time fishing the renowned Indian River and Mosquito Lagoons and just about any other body of water in the Central Florida area that looks "fishy."  We are excited to have Ben be part of our team.

Matrix Fly Blanks by the American Tackle Company offer a full range of lengths and line weights in 2 - 5 pc. fly blank options. These blanks feature woven carbon twill material in the butt section integrated with intermediate modulus material throughout the rest of the blank. This unique combination of material allows the blank to load and unload distributing energy more efficiently during casting and battling fish. These blanks are definitely a "see it, cast it, to believe it" and once you've seen the graphite twill material come alive in the natural sunlight, you'll be an instant fan.

Meet American Tackle Pro Staff Member Tony Overstake

Tony Overstake, owner of True West Custom Fly Rods in Creswell, Oregon, began builidng fly rods as a college student at the University of Oregon.  Tony said, "I wanted to fish with the best rods on the market, but could not afford them.  This is when I began to fall in love with the craft."   He built rods for himself and his friends before starting up True West in 2009.  His goal for the company was to blend the time-tested tradition of rod building with the newest and most innovative technology on the market, as well as expert craftmanship.

Tony soon began to realize that he would not be able to handle the business by himself and brought in a close friend, Nathan Woods, to handle the marketing and web design.  He also started teaching his wife, Roslyn, to work finishing rods.  Tony stated, "Nathan and Roslyn are both invaluable to True West, and Roslyn's skills have quickly surpassed mine in finishing rods."  He added,"We are all very excited about the future of True West Custom Rods and our partnership with American Tackle."

Tony is a former college wrestler and wrestling coach for the University of Oregon.  He now works as the Chaplain for the University of Oregon football team and athletic department.  Tony and Roslyn have been married for five years and live in Creswell, just south of Eugene, Oregon.  Contact Tony at www.TrueWestRods.com.
