Super PACs and the Wild West of American Campaign Finance
Greetings!
Super PACs have burst onto the American campaign finance scene and created serious questions about their significance for lobbyists, candidates and the state of American democracy.
On February 23rd, the American League of Lobbyists is sponsoring an event that examines the myth and reality of the Super PAC phenomenon. In Super PACs and the Wild West of American Campaign Finance, our featured speaker, Dr. Steven Billet, examines how we arrived at our current situation, and how Super PACs are changing the dynamic of the 2012 election. In addition, he analyzes how advocacy organization can adapt to the unpredictable, practical, and ethical dilemmas presented by Super PACs.
steve-billetDr. Billet is Director of the Masters in Legislative Affairs at the Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) at the George Washington University. At the GSPM, Dr. Billet created, directs, and is on the faculty of a graduate-level Certificate Program in PAC Management. He also teaches courses in International Advocacy, Interest Group Politics, and Legislative Politics. His current research includes two books, The Political Dimensions of Competitor Analysis and PAC Management in the Jungle of American Campaign Finance. Dr. Billet also serves in an official advisory capacity to ALL as part of an ongoing effort to ensure that ALL's Lobbying Certificate Program continues to provide a high level of practical instruction on the legislative and political processes in a challenging ethical environment.
