DOJ Issues New Guidance on HIV
and AIDS under the Americans With Disabilities Act
People living with HIV or AIDS are protected by the ADA. Persons with HIV, both symptomatic and asymptomatic, have physical impairments that substantially limit one or more major life activities or major bodily functions and are, therefore, protected by the law. Persons who are discriminated against because they are regarded as having HIV are also protected. For example, a person who was fired on the basis of a rumor that he had AIDS, even if he did not, would be protected by the law. Moreover, the ADA protects persons who are discriminated against because they have a known association or relationship with an individual who has HIV. For example, the ADA would protect a woman (who does not have HIV) who was denied a job because her roommate had AIDS.

From the Executive Director:
Dear Colleagues,
The MISBO Board of Directors meets collectively only 3-4 times annually, therefore I try to update the board with relevant information on a monthly basis when appropriate. The message for today's communication is an update for the MISBO membership on the work that is happening "behind the scenes". Our summer is busy - similar to all of you. In addition to the day-to-day work, we are preparing for our annual audit, looking at new office space locations, etc. Here are some of the key projects we have been working on this summer.
- Website / Association Database Management System
- Webinars
- Survey
- Annual Conference
- Staff

- New energy efficient types are available with others coming online soon
- At the end of the letter is a great resource that lists all the lamps going away for Halogen and Fluorescent with a cross reference to the replacements (current and future)

A New Group for Brokers to Sell to and How to Do it
Whether it's a bar association, a teachers union, a club or professional society, affinity groups know that one of the best ways to attract and retain membership is to offer insurance to their members. In fact, many are looking to add health care benefits to their growing lists of membership benefits. Providing access to an array of member benefits including insurance is not only a proven way for attracting and retaining members, but it is also a way to generate non-dues revenues to help these groups not only survive but thrive in these tough economic times.
