From the Executive Director:

Dear Colleagues,

I have just returned from the 2012 Association of Independent School Admission Professionals (AISAP) Summer Institute.  This was my fourth year to have the privilege of serving as the "token" business officer on faculty.  I strongly believe that my participation in this event helps strengthen the relationship between the business office and the admission office in independent schools.  Learning more about the challenges facing the admission professionals helps me to lead MISBO in better supporting this function at your school. We, as business and operations professionals, need to understand the roles and responsibilities of our colleagues in the admission office, educate ourselves as to the complexities of their annual calendar, and, most importantly, support their efforts to ensure that our schools continue to thrive with students that are mission appropriate for our schools' success.

The connection between these offices, challenging at times, is incredibly important, in fact, critical to the success of each of our schools. The admission professional is typically the first face and voice potential families experience for their school - their role is to recruit and retain families, the essential component to financial sustainability. As with business officers, their "career path" may be very different than many administrators in our schools. Some come from the teaching professions; others join schools from a business background which includes marketing, communication, and public relations. Many have modest financial or analytical skills yet they must constantly make significant data driven decisions. Many admission offices are responsible for financial aid administration - an increasingly complex task.

The admission office depends upon the support and cooperation of the business office, technology department, facilities, transportation, and human resources to be effective and efficient.  I encourage each of you to get to know the people in your admission office. Make sure you understand the challenges they face and in turn help them to understand the complexity and challenges of your work.

Sincerely,

Marc Levinson

"For the past two years Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, Florida has used Kor Kat for the purchase and installation of sunshades around our campus. Kor Kat has provided competitive fees for all the structures we have purchased.

In addition, the use of the MISBO discount for the materials has allowed us to save significant amounts of money on each purchase.

We appreciate the service provided by Kor Kat and also appreciate that you are MISBO suppliers. The combination works well for our product and budgeting needs."

Sincerely,
