Dear Colleagues,
 

As managers, we must make decisions every day - perhaps every hour - perhaps more frequently. In fact, it may be staggering if we were to consider the number of daily decisions we each make. Data driven decision making is a methodology that has become more common in recent years. The recent economic crisis has forced all of our schools to make difficult decisions at times. I would suggest that most of you evaluate great quantities of data in order to help guide your schools to the most productive decisions. Additionally we need / want to benchmark our own school's data against that of other schools.

What is benchmarking? The term benchmarking was first used by cobblers to measure people's feet for shoes. They would place someone's foot on a "bench" and mark it out to make the pattern for the shoes.

Successful benchmarking depends upon the ability to analyze timely and accurate data.

MISBO is partnering with Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) to provide a great new data collection / analysis / benchmarking tool for our member schools. We have contracted with Interactive Data Partners (IDP) (see sidebar for more information about IDP) to replace the former MISBO MS Excel based survey with a web-based data entry portal to submit your school's data. Additionally, IDP is building a web based benchmarking tool so that all schools who participate in the survey (input their school's data) will be able to benchmark their school against up to 450 other schools in our region. The greater the number of schools that participate, the greater the value of the data is to all schools. Remember that you must participate to be able to receive the results and benchmark your school's data to your peer schools.

MISBO is preparing our new website for launch later this summer. We would like to include photographs on our homepage showcasing different member schools, and what makes each of them unique.

Thank you to all the schools that have already submitted photos - they clearly show MISBO works for wonderful institutions - but we want more! Do you have a LEED Certified Building to highlight, pictures of an historical event or anniversary, or a new building addition to your campus? Share them with other members!
