From the Executive Director:

Dear Colleagues,

In 2011 MISBO gathered a group of people together to develop a strategic plan. Part of this process involved updating the Mission Statement - "MISBO is a professional association of independent schools in the Southeast Region of the United States that provides opportunities for collective purchasing, information sharing and professional development for the business officers and the business operations of independent schools." For those of you that were part of this process or have read this statement, you may notice a slight change. At the most recent MISBO Board meeting the Board decided to change "organization" to "association" to better reflect the character of MISBO. Dictionary.com defines "association" as:

  1. an organization of people with a common purpose and having a formal structure
  2. the connection or relation of ideas, feelings, sensations, etc.; correlation of elements of perception, reasoning, or the like.

I believe that these two points articulate for me the foundation of MISBO. MISBO exists to serve schools. Our goal is to make your jobs easier and more productive allowing you to add greater value to your schools and ultimately to enhance the outcome for each and every student at your school. Let us know how we are doing and what else we may do to help your schools.

CALL FOR MISBO BOARD NOMINATIONS

Today, June 14th is Flag Day! "The idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14th (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as 'Flag Birthday'." I believe that most if not all of our schools display the US Flag. I know that when I started at my school, I knew little about "flag etiquette" so here is some information that you may find useful - http://www.factmonster.com/spot/flagetiquette1.html

Happy Flag Day!

Sincerely,

Marc Levinson

Interim Executive Director, MISBO
