The Toledo Region is making its mark as a leader in the New Manufacturing Economy. Solar is a big part of the story, but it's about much more than the panels themselves.
Solar is already exhibiting rapid advancements in technology that are leading to lower costs, higher adoption rates and an explosion of new and larger uses for solar power.
Our keynote speaker Dave Heidenreich, author of Exponential Solar, will share his vision of solar's emergence as a dominant energy source over the next fifty years and the dramatic changes in the industry that it will take to get there. Mr. Heidenreich has been involved in power and energy industries for 40 years and has more than 20 U.S. patents. An energy futurist with an extensive background in traditional energy sources, he also currently serves as President at IPESsol, Inc. and Chairman of the Board at EBO Group/PTTech/IPESso where he leads development efforts in areas of alternative energy.
In addition, we'll take a look at the companies that are driving the Toledo Region's prominence in the worldwide solar market, learn more about solar's potential as a regional economic catalyst and discover how the Toledo Region is positioning itself to capitalize on this rapidly growing industry.

Third Frontier Internship Program Provides Cash Reimbursements for Tech Internships
The Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce is once again working with the Third Frontier Internship Program to offer cash reimbursements to businesses that employ college students pursing degrees in high-tech fields. The program offers Ohio businesses up to $3000 in cash reimbursement for eligible internships they provide in the areas of Advanced Materials; Advanced Manufacturing; Advanced Energy; Biomedical; Instruments, Controls and Electronics; Advanced Propulsion; and Information Technology. The program will reimburse businesses for 50 percent of an intern's wage (up to $3,000) for a 12 month period. The Chamber is no stranger to the internship program - between 2004 and 2007, the Chamber assisted with the placement of more than 320 interns across northwest Ohio, which resulted in over $960,000 in reimbursements made to northwest Ohio companies.
Since 2004, the goal of the Ohio Third Frontier Internship Program has been to develop a pool of talented workers for Ohio's businesses and create enriching student work experiences. The program positions Ohio to develop and retain technologies in the state that require educated and skilled workers. Students in the program gain hands-on experiences related to their field of study, while companies supporting these internships are partially compensated for wages paid during an internship and, at the conclusion of the internship, often offer full-time employment to an individual who is well prepared for a future career within the organization.
To participate in the internship program, or for more information, please contact Charlene Page at 419-243-8191 or charlene.page@toledochamber.com.

CSI Ohio Initiates New Business Rule Review Process
All future state agency rules which adversely impact businesses are now subject to a Business Impact Analysis under CSI Ohio, the Common Sense Initiative instituted by the Kasich Administration in an effort to reform Ohio's regulatory policies and make Ohio a jobs- and business-friendly state.
The Business Impact Analysis will ensure that those affected by business regulations are given the opportunity to help shape those regulations, and will force agencies to validate that the purpose of the regulation justifies the impact to business. Upon completion of an analysis, it will be turned over to the CSI office and to the public to determine whether the agency has made its case. Any rule with an impact on business that cannot be justified can be invalidated by the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR).
Business Impact Analysis is just one of the ways in which CSI Ohio is reviewing Ohio's regulatory system to eliminate excessive and duplicative rules and regulations that stand in the way of job creation. Ohioans with ideas on cutting through this red tape are encouraged to visit the CSI website and submit their ideas at www.governor.ohio.gov/CSI.
