"The Pluralism Project"
Building an Interfaith Community and Leadership Seminar
Dear friends,
The Pluralism Project is excited to announce a summer educational opportunity offered jointly with Andover Newton Theological Seminary. Please see below for details or visit our website for more information and an application.
All the best,
The Pluralism Project Staff
A Seminar Offered Jointly by Andover Newton Theological Seminary and The Pluralism Project at Harvard University
June 1-14, 2012
The Pluralism Project at Harvard University and Andover Newton Theological Seminary are pleased to announce that they are currently accepting applications for an intensive two-week seminar that will take place June 1-14, 2012 in Greater Boston. Through master classes, site visits to local religious communities and analyzing case studies developed by the Pluralism Project, seminar participants will explore the intersection of religious and civic life and reflect on their role as religious leaders in the public square. Sikh, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Jewish community leaders will introduce participants to their houses of worship and religious practices as we explore some of the challenges and opportunities that interfaith community-building involves.
The seminar is primarily intended for seminarians and divinity school students; a select group of lay leaders within religious, atheist/secular/humanist, and/or interfaith organizations are also sought for participation in this seminar. These leaders will have the opportunity to share with students and colleagues some of the current challenges their communities face in America's multi-religious reality and the ways in which they, as individuals and as a community, are engaging with this diversity.
The Building Interfaith Community and Leadership Seminar is offered jointly between Andover-Newton Theological School and The Pluralism Project at Harvard University. The seminar is generously funded by the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation. The instructors for the course will be Dr. Jennifer Peace, of Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, and Dr. Diana Eck, of the Pluralism Project and Harvard University.
Applicants should be
· currently enrolled in a participating seminary or theological school within the Boston Theological Institute (BTI)
· able to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to promoting religious literacy and fostering inter-religious engagemen
· available for and willing to attend the full length of the course (absences for religious observances are permitted)
To be considered for the seminar, completed applications must be submitted electronically to staff@pluralism.org by 5pm on Monday, February 13th, 2012. Interested applicants should direct any questions to staff@pluralism.org or contact the Pluralism Project at 617-496-2481
Applications can be found online at: http://pluralism.org/pages/applications/2012/interfaith_community_leadership_seminar

The Institute on Culture, Religion and World Affairs is a center for research, publication, and education on one of the most important questions in the contemporary world: How does culture affect economic and political developments world-wide? Specifically, how does religion impact international affairs? Since its inception in 1985, CURA has sought to discover, trace, and analyze the connection between culture, economics, politics, and globalization. We have conducted research projects on every continent except Australia, and these projects have resulted in publications that have become major points of reference on their topics. In a dynamic and modernizing world, CURA's ultimate agenda is to further global understanding and communication.

Poet's Corner
An excerpt from
"In Blackwater Woods"
By Mary Oliver
"To live in this world
You must be able to do three things:
To love what is mortal; to hold it
Against your bones knowing your own life depends on it;
And, when the time comes to let it go, to let it go."

Allston Blaze Sends Seven Students to Hospital
One BU student is in critical condition after leaping from the second floor of a burning Allston apartment early yesterday morning and six others were taken to area hospitals, where they were treated for smoke inhalation and other injuries. Boston Fire Department spokesperson Stephen MacDonald says that more than 60 firefighters battled the fire at 84 Linden Street in frigid 18 degree weather. MacDonald says the fire, which destroyed the off-campus building occupied by seven members of the BU chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu, was reported shortly after 7 a.m. and that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
