Avenue Q poster of Trekkie monster

I'm having a blast at Storybook's Avenue Q rehearsals as their puppet coach/lead. I'm most impressed by the actors who can act, sing and manipulate a puppet - although we're still working on getting it all together during the cancan line. They are also working on muscling up one arm and shoulder.

Runs May 25th  - June 3rd. Tickets on sale now at: (note this is NOT a show for children)

About UNIMA

The UNIMA (UNion Internationale de la MArionnette) is a Non-Governmental Organization affiliated to UNESCO that brings together people from around the world who contribute to the development of the art of puppetry with the objective of using this art in the pursuit of human values such as peace and mutual understanding between peoples regardless of race, political or religious convictions and differences in culture, in accordance with the respect for fundamental human rights as defined in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights of December 10th 1948.

UNIMA- CANADA is an association that promotes the arts of puppetry, and its artisans, from coast to coast. At the moment it has two sections - Quebec section and Ontario section. WPTS encourages all puppeteers to join this organization; it is only $15.00 per year.

Call for proposals

GET SOME PUPPET POWER WORKING FOR YOU!

A significant component of the Puppet Power 2013 - the Fearless Face of Puppetry conference on March 8-10 2013 will use the expertise of our visiting speakers to create a "Rapid Idea Generation" panel. The panel will brainstorm a pre-selected organization's proposal in order to demonstrate how artists and a community organization can create an exciting puppet project. After the conference, WP Puppet Theatre is committed to continuing to work with the selected organization to complete the project, and we are currently seeking funding to contribute to the project development phase.

If you represent a Calgary based NFP or NGO please check out the call at http://www.wppuppet.com/puppet_power.htm or contact us for more information.

 What a lovely story!

Greetings, WP Puppet Theatre

I spoke with you at your booth at the Palliser Teachers' Convention last month and told you how much I enjoy teaching the students in my Gr.3 class to make shadow puppets.  I incorporate this artistic endeavour in order to have the children retell the 4 myths and legends we study for our Social Studies curriculum that includes the 4 countries of Peru, Ukraine, India and Tunisia!  Using a $3 white shower curtain hung from my classroom ceiling, and an old overhead projector, we have great fun viewing and hearing the final productions.  I especially love it when the children ad lib and create a new twist to these timeless tales! :0) Thanks for enhancing my teaching.  I love hands-on projects that grab my students' creative attention and "hooks" even my most reluctant learners.

Thanks again.  Blessings, Jane, Grade Three,
Calgary Christian School
