REMINDER:
OCTOBER 31ST 2011 DEADLINE TO SUBMIT Proposals
Puppet Power 2013 Conference
THE FEARLESS
Our committee is currently planning the speakers
for our upcoming conference for Spring 2013 (details TBA), set in Calgary, Alberta. WP Puppet Theatre Society has produced and presented five such conferences over the last 10 years with varying socio-educational oriented themes. Please see the full call at http://www.wppuppet.com/puppet_power.htm We are planning a variety of presentation methods, including video conferencing, video streaming, keynotes, hands on workshops, short 20 slide talks and more. We're sure there's some great work out there that uses puppetry "address, question and explore the tough issues facing us in today's world".

Thoughts
In this day of re-naming the same old stuff to be 'new', re-packaging the same old product to be more hip and of course the ubiquitous acronym I was pondering the term 'puppet'. Is there too much baggage associated with this fuzzy, foam filled, wooden headed, multi stringed, shadowy, sock based, neon coloured, primeval art form? FFFWHMSSSBNCPAF?
I 'goggled' 'visual metaphor' and this turned up a can of worms. Try it. Here is a commonly used phrase: The puppet is a visual metaphor - representing real life - but at the same time, it is one step removed from the real world."
So as I don't have a lot of time to ponder I'm going to try NQRAF**, as my new lingo. Who says thinking on the fly doesn't work? - Wendy
** I suppose this isn't self-explanatory... Not Quite Real Art Form.
Perhaps it does need more work. :-)
