News from PTS Coaching
Volume 4, Issue 1
Hello,

I hope you all enjoyed the summer. It sure flew by, didn't it? Before you are inundated with papers and schedules I wanted to give you the dates for the fall programs I will be offering and tell you about some exciting new additions to PTS Coaching.

I will be offering my workshop Calm and Connected: Parenting Children with ADHD© during the day and evening this fall in New York.  I am also pleased to now offer the workshop as a Webinar for those outside of New York who have been asking for support.  You will be able to fully participate via the webcam on your computer in the privacy of your home.  See my website www.PTScoaching.com for details and registration.

Graduates of the workshop are invited to join the Parent Support Group beginning Tuesday, October 2nd.

I am also pleased to welcome Marjorie Harrison to my staff.  Marj will be coaching adolescents, teens and college students.  She is an experienced teacher and a trained ADHD Coach.  She can help your kids develop good skills and habits for the school year.  We will also be supporting both parents and kids through the College Application process.  Read Marj's insightful article below.

Finally, I have developed a new 2-session workshop, Managing Homework and School for Kids with ADHD: Tips, Tools, Strategies... and Your Role©.  This workshop is full of advice, guidance and education to help parents instill healthy motivation, organization, and time management practices in their kids.

       See you in the fall!

Great Apps for Parents and Kids
apps
There seems to be an explosion of new apps being developed for computers, tablets and smartphones each day. While it can seem overwhelming, some of these apps are worth learning about. And the best part is that most of them are free or very inexpensive.

For those still unfamiliar with what an "app" is, think of it as a mini software program that requires minimal time to set up, learn, and start to use. The benefits can be virtually immediate.
Listed below are a few apps I have recently discovered that are useful for parents and students. My hope is that you will find their ease and simplicity helpful. [read more]
Tips, Tools and Strategies for Managing the College Application Process for Students with ADHD
For those High School Seniors who choose to pursue post-secondary education at either a two-year community college or a four-year college or university, the college search and application process can be both tremendously exciting yet, at the same time, completely overwhelming.  There are decisions to be made as to where to apply, how many schools the student will be applying to, determination of size and location of the campus, scheduling of college visits and interviews, consideration of financial costs and family resources, researching which academic majors each institution offers and whether adequate disability services are offered where needed.

Most high schools have guidance departments that can help narrow your search based on an individual student's grade point average in combination with SAT or ACT test scores. However, the ultimate decision as to where to apply and how best to approach the process rests with the student and their family.

Once decisions have been made about where the student will be applying to school, the task of initiating the application process and keeping track of varying deadlines and a host of other important details begins.  This can be quite challenging to a teenager with ADHD.  [read more]
