New York, NY (PRWEB) June 02, 2011

Beginning June 16th, Cindy Goldrich, a Certified ADHD Parent Coach based in Long Island, NY, is facilitating a 7 - Session Parenting Workshop Series to parents of children and teens with ADHD.
The Hallowell Center is one of the country's top resources for treating ADD and ADHD. Recognizing the important role ADHD education and specific parenting techniques play in managing the challenges and struggles often associated with ADHD, a 7 - Session Parenting Workshop will be running on Thursdays, beginning June 16th, for seven weeks.
Cindy Goldrich, Ed. M., ACAC, expert on ADHD behaviors and challenges, facilitates the workshop. Through a combination of education, coaching and ongoing support she helps parents deepen their connection with their children to build on their innate strengths and potential.
According to Cindy and other leaders in the field, Children with ADHD are often intelligent, creative thinkers; however, they commonly struggle with the structure and expectations of school. Frequently, these same children are strong willed and oppositional. Parents are often baffled, frustrated, and discouraged when their children become defiant and disrespectful. Coupled with this, parents often don't understand their children's lack of motivation and drive.
ADHD Coach Cindy Goldrich says, "Parents are often unprepared for the behaviors and defiance that can accompany the recognized ADHD traits of impulsivity, hyperactivity and inattentiveness. They struggle with knowing how to effectively motivate their children and reduce the push-back and opposition that occurs." She further explains that the child's difficulty in managing his or her emotions and tolerating boredom often presents greater challenges than the impulsivity, hyperactivity and inattentiveness.
To help overcome these challenges, Cindy designed the Parent Coaching Workshops. In essence, the Parenting Workshop brings to life the challenges parents face and clearly provides parents with practical, day-to-day tools to improve communication, compliance, respect and joy. Workshops also explore why punishments and rewards are often ineffective tools in changing behaviors. Specific strategies are then taught to improve organization, time management, and address some of the Executive Function weaknesses that accompany ADHD. Special Education IEP and 504 plans are discussed as well.
The workshops also uniquely function to bring together many local families experiencing similar challenges. By doing so, they effectively create a support group that reinforces and deepens the learning accomplished during workshops. Cindy is available for private consultation throughout the 7 sessions for any parents that would benefit from individual coaching.
Cindy's coaching website, http://www.PTScoaching.com, which includes published articles that she has authored on related subjects, is an additional resource for parents.
